Naples Lululemon Worker Charged with Fraud and Grand Theft in Complex Scheme

He then transferred the refunds onto Lululemon gift cards that he stole from his store. With these digital funds, he subsequently purchased almost $18,000 in Lululemon merchandise from the company’s online store.
When this online merchandise arrived at his residence, he promptly took it into his workplace and processed a second set of returns. This time, he transferred the refunds directly onto his debit cards. This multi-faceted scheme may have seemed like the perfect crime, but the employee was ultimately caught.
It is worth noting that it was not the local police who caught the alleged fraudster, but rather an asset protection manager hired by Lululemon. This professional seems to have recorded all of the fraudulent transactions before providing the local sheriff with the evidence they needed for an arrest.
When questioned by the police, the employee seems to have admitted wrongdoing, claiming that he couldn’t stop doing it despite knowing that it was illegal. He also explained that he had to steal the funds because he couldn’t pay his bills. Despite these admissions, the defendant has apparently decided to plead not guilty. It is not exactly clear why.
If nothing else, this story illustrates just how serious things can become when employees steal from their employers. The penalty for grand theft is up to 30 years in prison. Lululemon is a company with a value of over $58 billion, and it was recently added to the S&P 500.
